What were they thinking?

It’s been a while since the last edition of ‘What were they thinking?’ – did you miss it? For those that are new to the series, I’ll fill you in. WWTT is a series based on some of the more debatable current trends or clothing items. The point isn’t to hate, but to debate! Do you agree, would you wear it, have you seen it on the street?

For this edition I’m featuring a scan from the December issue of JELLY.
The item/trend in question? Panties (thongs) that are visible over jeans, shorts etc.

Now don’t get me wrong, I adore fancy panties but I really do dislike seeing other peoples over the top of their trousers. It reminds me of high school when showing your thong over your trousers was popular. I wasn’t a fan then and I’m not a fan now. Sorry ladies, I’m sure you look fab in your panties but have a little class and keep them hidden.

This was most likely shot for the magazine/ad campaign alone and is not an actual trend. So don’t worry. Let’s just hope it doesn’t become one!

What were they thinking?

It gives me hope that it has been a while since the last ‘What were they thinking?‘ and this time round the culprits aren’t as bad as past instalments.
I was recently walking past the Shinjuku MA*RS store when I noticed something in the window that didn’t really appeal to me.
The cute bear mascot of MA*RS (Miratan) may seem familiar to you as they’ve used it before, but I’ve never been a real fan of it. The reason I choose to place this purse and pass case here is because it just looks so cheap and child-like. Maybe with the current popularity of W♥C’s playful Kumatan they’re hoping Miratan will also catch on?!
It just doesn’t look like something that really suits the sexy, mature style of MA*RS.

However maybe with the right outfit or personal style someone could work it?
What do you think?

Next up is another item from the new MA*RS collection. This time I spotted it online, whilst looking for images of the ‘Miratan pass case‘.
They have gone for the high waist and flared bottom that has been gaining popularity this season but this is a room wear item, so it’s obviously not meant to be worn outside. It does look kinda comfy, but sexy? No, sorry. I think it’s a mixture of the short flared bottoms and the idea that anyone with the tiniest of behinds is going to look rather big. In fact from the other pictures on the site it just looks unflattering –see the back.
I don’t know though, maybe I’m taking room wear too seriously?
Are you a fan of it? If so/not, why?

Please remember that these are just the ramblings of one bored girl and I’m sorry if anyone likes either of the items mentioned. Someone must, otherwise they wouldn’t create it, right?

What were they thinking?

「What were they thinking?」
It’s been a while since the last installment of ‘what were they thinking?’, which is slightly encouraging but unfortunately nothing lasts forever and it’s back again.
For all my new readers; ‘what were they thinking?’ is a series on some of the crazier, less fashionable items in Gal…because no brand can get it right every time.
This time round, the culprit is ME JANE, which is a part of the same company as MA*RS – and is the least favourite of the sisters, unfortunately. That’s not to say that they don’t bring out good pieces. However for the upcoming Autumn season, they took the Nordic trend a little too far…
That’s right, leggings with Nordic print leg-warmers attached. Now any of my close friends will know that I already have a slight distaste for leg warmers, but these things are the worst.
I’m sorry, but I really do hope I’m right in thinking that these won’t be a hit next season…otherwise I may have to choke back laughter when seeing Gals tottering around Tokyo in them.
Ok ok, so maybe I am over exaggerating a little but I don’t think anyone would look fashionable in these. Not Tsubasa, not Sakurina, not Kumicky etc. etc…you get my point.
Oh well, if you happen to like them or invest in a pair then feel free to try and convert me – it’ll be a hard task though ;D

What were they thinking?

「What were they thinking?」
For this edition of ‘What were they thinking?’ I am offering up two items, one of which may be slightly controversial of me ;D
Why is that? Because it comes from…

…GILFY. I personally love this store, and I know that most of you will too. But that doesn’t mean that they can get away with everything haha.
This skirt just kind of stood out for me on Gilfy’s 109 store, but not in a good way. Sometimes I feel like the 109 stores don’t really pick the best of the latest items from the brands.
Anyway, the real reason I dislike this skirt is because of the swimming trunk vibe it has. I don’t know, but if it were shorts instead then I’m sure you could sell it as swimming trunks for guys. I think this is mainly down to the way the material looks, which may not be the case up close.
Then the description mentions that this skirt sports the Argentinean flag….huh?! I don’t know why either (they also have other countries), but as they go on to say, if you’re a fan of the up and coming World Cup (and supporting Argentina!?) then this is the skirt for you ;D
I like the blue and the white, maybe it’s just the tie or the buttons that put me off. I don’t know but don’t listen to me, this is sold out on the 109 store, so it must be a hit.
Next up, a small accessory from SBY.
SBY are of course well known for their accessories, and this flowered poodle is featured on the 109 store – of course. I don’t dislike this terribly and I don’t really have any other complaints then…it just looks rather demonic haha XD

What were they thinking?

「What were they thinking?」
Business woman Tsubasa Masuwaka has a new collaboration under her belt this month.
She already has a long list of collab’s including; make-up, hair accessories, eyelashes, clothing…so what’s the next step for this busy lady?!
Sanitary towels, of course!!
Now, this may be something that every girl needs so correct me if I’m wrong, but does there really need to be a brand specifically aimed at Gals?! Surely we’re all the same when it comes down to something like this.
Tsubasa comments on her blog about how cute they are, and the different sizes and types. Elis (womens hygiene care company) are very smart, they know that Tsubasa will draw in the crowds but it does seem a little odd to have someone collaborating on such a thing, right? I know that I really couldn’t care less if my favourite model is collaborating on feminine hygiene products and making sure they’re ‘really cute’. In fact it kinda weirds me out.
Whether you like them or hate them…if you happen to be caught in Japan and it’s ‘that time’ why not visit your local store and pick up some Tsubasa endorsed sanitary towels. Be quick though, they’re only on sale until the stock is cleared!! haha

What were they thinking?

「What were they thinking?」

I don’t like to hate, but sometimes something in Gal comes along and makes me wonder – WHY?! Of course this happens in every fashion circle, but this blog is dedicated to Gal…so we’ll just stick with that for now ;D

This time round the culprit is ‘MITSUMARU’S HEAVEN and EARTH’, which can be found on 109’s 1st floor. A mixture of sexy and feminine, it boasts top sales. So why then did I find this on EGG’s outlet store:

Yes, that is an upside down skirt. Ok, so it isn’t particularly hideous but really…is that the best they could come up with? It’s no wonder I found it on an outlet store – which can have some great items, but also the kind of stock that makes you think it’s only there because it won’t sell instore or on the official site.

Luckily I haven’t seen this anywhere else, so it’s unlikely it’s a new trend. Here’s hoping it’s just last season’s remnants.
