Guest Post: Make your own body lotion

The lovely ‘Bokusouchi‘ has been kind enough to guest post for me whilst I am away.
She wanted to bring you all a DIY Beauty Tutorial, and after deliberation decided that she would show you one of her tried and tested favourites. Here is ‘How to make your own body lotion‘.

—————————————–

What you’ll need:

1) Unrefined solid coconut oil (you can get this online or in a health food shop)
2) 1 ounce of beeswax (it normally comes in 1 ounce bars, I got 2 for £1 on ebay)
3) An essential oil of your choice (I went for sweet orange)
4) A medium sized pan
5) A sterilised pot/jar (I sterilised an old mayo jar)
6) Something to mix it with that you can throw away, like an old chopstick etc.
If you don’t have that use the handle of a mental spoon/fork etc.

Boil your kettle. While your waiting, pop your beeswax into the jar and top it up with coconut oil, like so

Once your kettle has boiled pour the hot water into your pan and put the jar in.
You want the water to be roughly half way up the jar.
Make sure you put the ingredients into the jar before you put it into the pan, if not your jar will tip.
Put the heat on to about medium.

Keep it on the heat until it completely melts.
It will go a funny yellow colour but don’t worry that’s supposed to happen!
Then take it out (watch your fingers, it’s going to be hot!), it should look like this.
Now time to give it a stir and add your oil! You’ll only need a few drops, trust me.
…….and that’s you done!
If you find that it’s a bit too hard you can melt it down using the same method and add more coconut oil, too soft beeswax.

I loved this body lotion but prefer it as a night time one as it’s a bit heavier than the ones I’m used too.
I’ve found it’s an AMAZING overnight foot treatment too, just load it on and pop some socks on.
You’ll wake up with baby soft tootsies!

OOTD: Pistachio Ice Cream

Shirt: H&M | Top: Glamorous* | Vest: Topshop | Skirt: Glamorous* | Heels: Primark | Necklace: Swarovski

Here is my outfit from yesterday, my final day of university. It’s the end of an era, which will finally see me step out into the real world.

I am in love with the colour of this skirt! It’s a pastel mint green. The whole outfit reminds me of pistachio ice cream for some reason – yummy. Glamorous have some amazing pastel coloured skirts right now and I keep drooling over them all. I decided to pair it with a this lace see-through top and some old heels, as it just seemed to fit the mood. Can you believe it? An outfit with no black!! I’m so proud of myself. I think the end of university has awoken Summer inside me…or something like that.

Inspiration: Elli-Rose

Model and DJ Elli-Rose

Elli-Rose is a half English, half Japanese model, who works primarily in Japan.
She models for a Japanese magazine called Vivi magazine, as well as other publications.
Recently she did a shoot for the British magazine iD for the Chanel, Tokyo issue.
She also DJs in her spare time and is known on the international circuit as Van Cliffe D.
So why do I love her?
I love her carefree, fun approach to modelling and her own personal style.
I also love her outlook on fashion. She says it’s very much like her music taste – varied.
She’s a big lover of vintage fashion, and mixing various styles together.
That spoke to me, as I love experimenting and wearing whatever I like. I don’t have one style.
She interacts with her fans through her Twitter and Instagram, and is incredibly sweet.
She’s even tweeted me a few times, and follows me. I think it’s nice that she is so personal.
You can watch the video she did for H&M Life here – it’s in English.

A little disclaimer…

Recently I have been receiving offers from various companies, asking me to collaborate with them (in the form of affiliations) or review their products etc. Therefore I thought it was about time that I write a small disclaimer for the blog, and I wanted to explain it to my readers first. I always like to include a small disclaimer, as I don’t want to hide the fact that I have been sent these items. I’m not saying it is a bad thing if you don’t mention it, I just prefer to be up front about those kind of things but it does get tiring having to write disclaimers on every post.

Please also note that I don’t accept every item/affiliation. I only accept those that I feel are relevant to my interests (products I want to try, or have thought of buying myself) and the blogs.

So here is what will be happening…
From May 2012, if an item in a post has been provided by a company or pr agency, or it has been bought with gifted store credit etc. I will be placing a small * next to the product/brand name. This will be an indication that I did not buy the item personally, and that it has been sent/provided to me. I will usually include a link to the website of the company/item. Before 16 May 2012, disclaimers were included in the text of the blog post, or at the bottom of the blog post. If you’re curious as to who I affiliate with, you can find banners and links at the bottom of the sidebar.
I do write sponsored posts (as of August 2012) which means that I am being paid to write content for a company/brand, as well as sometimes being provided a product also. These kind of posts will always be declared. This does not mean the integrity of the content will change at all.

From 2013 I may be running small ads on my blog occasionally. These will not be annoying (I hate massive ads on blogs) and you by no means have to click on them unless you are interested. These ads are run by Nuffnang, which I am a member of.

From Jan 2014 I will have installed Skimlinks on the blog, which isn’t intrusive to you but it may occasionally change links on my blog into affiliate links, and keywords in my posts into links.

I will be placing a mini disclaimer about this on the right hand side, alongside my image disclaimer. Please note that all opinions stated are my own – even if I have been sent an item by a company, my views and opinions will still remain 100% honest!
I hope you will all understand my decision behind this and continue to support me in the future.

Thank you ♥

Sweater & Dress: OASAP* | Shoes: Urban Outfitters

The lovely people at OASAP and I are now collaborating and this outfit was provided by them.
I have exams today but I figured at least I can look good whilst I sit in a cold hall for 3 hours. Anyway, I loved the look of this sweater-dress combo (they come as a pair, and can be separated) as soon as I laid eyes on it. I have a thing for cut-out shoulder shirts and sweaters right now, and peach. This look just seemed casual but cute and that’s pretty much how I always try to dress. I also like the idea that I could take the sweater off at night, throw some accessories on and I could easily wear it – maybe out to dinner or for drinks, rather than a club though. The earrings are also from Oasap. If you remember I had some from Topshop on my wishlist. Cute! I can’t wait for it to get warmer so I can wear this outfit more often.
I always worry about buying online, especially from Asian websites as I have a large chest. However the sizing was perfect, it fit well and was very comfortable. It was also pretty cheap at $29 with free worldwide shippingThe only drawback is that it’s short. I’m just 5’3 (and it’s ok) but anyone over that would probably be showing some booty.
Don’t forget to visit Oasap and use discount code: ‘bloomzy’ for 35% off!

Beauty from the inside out

Cho-Yung Green Tea & Supplements from my Big Pink Box

Lately I’ve not been feeling at my best.
I’m tired, stressed and generally feeling quite rubbish.
I’ve put a lot of this down to my wheat intolerance, which flares up when I’m stressed.
However it hasn’t helped that I’ve been eating wheat products like there’s no tomorrow!
I love pastries, bread etc. and even though I know they’re not good for me sometimes I find myself giving in.
So I decided to change all that!
Now that university is finishing and Summer is approaching I decided to turn it all around.
I don’t want to be tired or feeling down all the time, and I think getting my body back in shape is the way to combat that!
The supplements from my big pink box have been sat on my cabinet for a while now, but there is a reason for that.
I actually take supplements already, and I wanted to finish the ones I had before I started these. It’s good to remember that taking a bunch of vitamins together probably won’t do much. So it’s worth checking the info on your supplements and making note of the % of which vitamins and minerals etc. your supplements are offering, and remember that you’ll also be getting some from your diet! Sometimes you just can’t help it though, so don’t worry too much.
Anyway, I’m not a dietician but I know that cutting out wheat, taking supplements and drinking plenty will help me get back to my usual self. Please note that this is not a diet to lose weight, but to get healthy!

So I will be taking the following to help me out:
I will update you all in a month to see if there is any difference!
How do YOU keep your diet healthy?

Review: MUA Primer & Pretty Pastels Palette

Recently MUA were offering free items with a purchase, to celebrate their birthday.
When I saw the ‘Pretty Pastel Palette‘ was one of the free items I quickly put my order in.
Now whether you love this Spring/Summer’s pastel trend or not, pastel eyeshadows are always a great basic to add to any make-up collection. So is eye primer, therefore I decided to review the two together.
I am only going to do a short review on this, as I can’t say I’m really sold on the product.
It is quite a thick eye primer, compared to others I have used, and I found that it was a little cakey.
Whilst the primer helps your eyeshadow last throughout the day, I found it very hard to remove my eye make-up at night.
I liked the applicator, and the slight tint the primer had to it, but that’s about it.
Considering the price though (£2.50), I wasn’t expecting anything amazing.
I feel bad as this is the first MUA product I have disliked, but I don’t think I will be using it again.
Don’t take my word alone though, I have read other reviews that praise the primer.

Swatches (with MUA Primer)

I really liked this palette, and the colours that were included (better photo here).
They are very pastel-y and light, which is perfect for creating a simple, feminine eye – which is why I bought it.
I was a little put off by the glittery sheen (they may look matte on the website, but they are not) that you can see in the swatches – I would have preferred a matte shadow. However after I applied the eyeshadows and did the rest of my make-up I found that I didn’t really notice it. It is quite difficult to get a pigmented colour, so if this is what you’re after you will definitely have to use a primer and it will take a few applications. However I don’t think you should expect high pigmentation from a pastel palette..
I’ve used this palette several times now, each time with a different colour.
So far the pinks, purples & browns have to be my favourites.
Definitely glad that I bought this! Shame about the primer.
