Review: Topshop Nails Polish in Mardi Gras

Topshop Nails Polish in Mardi Gras

Two Topshop nail polish posts in two days?! Yes I am spoiling you I know.
This one is an effect polish though so it’s again it’s a different type of polish.
Mardi Gras is made up of small, colourful foil pieces to give a confetti-like effect.
Swatched on my nails, over Topshop’s Drink Pink Matte Polish

Pros:
+ Feather/Confetti-like effect
+ Great effect top coat
+ Foils are colourful and noticeable
+ Fast drying

Cons:
– Difficult to apply evenly
–  Too sheer to wear by itself

Notes:
This is a great feather/confetti-like effect top coat that I will be sporting on my nails this New Years Eve. The small foil pieces are colourful and apply onto the nails well. Unfortunately it is quite difficult to get an even application, something that happens often with this kind of effect polish. I love how it looks on top of a base coat, but wouldn’t wear it alone as it would be too sheer. Of course it is perfect for the Christmas season, with blues, reds and greens, but this is a polish you could wear anytime. I’d like to try this with a darker colour next time to see the outcome. At £6 it’s not too pricey for an effect polish, and I can’t say I’ve seen a similar polish that I like as much as this one.
You can purchase ‘Mardi Gras’ at Topshop for £6.

Review: Topshop Matte Nails Polish in Drink Pink

Topshop Matte Nails Polish in Drink Pink

I don’t own many matte nail polishes so I was happy to receive this for Christmas.
This is a dark pink, magenta shade from Topshop’s Matte Nails collection.
So what did I think of ‘Drink Pink’?

Swatched on my nails

Pros:
+ Easy application
+ Dried quickly
+ Colour in bottle is same on application
+ Opaque in one coat

Cons:
– Brush could be bigger

Notes:
Topshop have created a highly pigmented matte nail polish with a great finish. I’m not a fan of most of their polishes – they’re too sheer and don’t come out the same as they look in the bottle – but this one is different. Topshop recommend you use a base coat and two coats, but I actually didn’t have any base coat handy (forgetful traveller) and only did one coat. Yet the polish applied easily – although I felt the brush could have been slightly bigger – and was opaque in only one coat. The colour looked the same as the one in the bottle and dried quickly – like most matte polishes. During the drying process it gets to a point where you think it isn’t going to dry matte and may just stay shiny, but the final outcome is a wonderful matte finish with a slight sheen. I was very impressed. For £6 I will definitely be thinking about purchasing one of the other shades in the collection. Even better when they currently have a ‘2 for £9’ offer on their polishes.
You can purchase ‘Drink Pink’ at Topshop for £6.

Wishlist: Staying Fashionably Festive

Fashionably Festive Wishlist
Sometimes we can all get a little too caught up in the Christmas spirit.
That doesn’t mean you need to look like a reject from a 90s Christmas special though.
This year the stores and brands are trying to out-do each other with their festive treats.
No I don’t mean mince pies and mulled wine, I mean sweaters, dresses and beauty products!
Every big brand has jumped on the Christmas bandwagon and are putting up their collections.
So I decided to pick 10 of my favourite ways to stay fashionable and festive this Christmas:

How do you stay fashionable and festive?
Do you love tacky Christmas jumpers, or do you prefer chic designer?

Styling Topman’s ‘His and Her’ Collection

Myself and the fiancé wearing a t-shirt and hoodie from Topman*

Recently I was contacted by Topman about a very cool new campaign they are working on.
The ‘His and Her’ Collection aims to promote Topman’s various unisex items – pretty cool, right?
I often go into Topman with the fiancé and fancy picking out a bunch of stuff for myself as well.
So you can guess that I was pretty hyped to take part in the campaign, as it’s right up my street!
Scrolling through the Topman website and picking a few pieces wasn’t easy either.
I thought I’d be able to find one or two pieces I might want, but ended up with a basket full.
Of course I had to narrow my selection down eventually and I went for these two amazing pieces.
I choose them a couple of sizes larger than I would usually, as I love the oversized ‘boyfriend’ look.
That also came in pretty handy when I decided to pop them on the fiancé.
Did you spot the fiancé expertly modelling in those last couple of photos?
I wanted to show how versatile Topman’s clothing really is, so I asked him to get involved too.
We had a bit of a laugh as we switched clothes (and the camera) halfway through the photo shoot.
I still think I look better (maybe I’m biased), but I’ll admit that they looked pretty good on him too.
This has definitely given me the kick I needed to buy more ‘guys’ clothing and work it myself.

OOTD: Channeling Alexa Chung

Sweater* – Oasap | Skirt – Topshop | Necklace – Tatty Devine | Watch* – French Connection

Ok so I could never be as effortlessly stylish as Alexa, but I can try, right? Thankfully this sweater from Oasap has allowed me to at least imitate her style. The sweater is super comfy and really warm – I wore it to work without a coat and felt quite cozy. I paired it with my favourite skate skirt from Topshop and my tiger Tatty Devine necklace. It’s not exactly an outfit that’s going to walk down the catwalk anytime soon, but I like it.

OOTD: Morning Bakery Run

Jacket* – Warehouse | Top – Pull & Bear | Leggings* – Oasap | Necklace – Topshop | Bag* – Oasap
Whenever we stay in France we make a morning trip to the boulangerie (everyday). There really is something special about having warm, fresh baguette and croissants for breakfast. Luckily for us we have one just over the bridge from us, so we don’t have to get up too early.
Dressing up in a town full of skiers/hikers means you tend to stand out a bit. Even my casual style means that people look at me as if I’m crazy for not wearing a gilet. Still, it’s not as if a few looks has ever stopped me before, right? Well that’s pretty obvious. Today I wanted to wear my new leggings & backpack from Oasap as they’re understatedly cool. The leggings have a velvet brocade design on them (detail photo) and I absolutely love them to pieces. The rest of my outfit was basically worked around the leggings, I’m not gonna lie to y’all. Still I think it all works together and my new backpack come handbag is super handy.
