Scarves, Deco and Sailors?!

The ‘Scarf’ Trend
A few examples from April issue of Happie Nuts.
I’m sure you have all noticed or at least heard by now about the current Scarf boom in Gal. If not then definitely check out this post by Mitsu – everything you need to know, and a little how-to for those a bit unsure of what to do.
Scarves can be seen in most current issues of Gal magazines, whether worn on the head or as an accessory – although the head scarf seems to be most popular right now.
And all of the models are working it; Popteen’s Wei Son & Yui Kanno, Momoeri, Romihi is stocking up on Bandanas from SBY, and it’s also a fave with Nori & Tae.
I had a go this past week, and here are a few pics;
Left; Regular scarf made into a bow
Right; Ready-made lace bow, wrapped around my bun (thanks Samispo0n).
The ‘hippie’ look that a few models seem to be working.
And to prove that even animals can work the current Gal trend…
My puppy – Sam XD
What do you think of the current Scarf trend?

Deco-Den
You may remember one of my fledgling posts about deco-ing my cellphone, here.
Well I had a long train journey back to uni this weekend, so I thought I’d give it a go – yes on the train, haha. No I’m not crazy, I cheated and used a glue sheet on the phone, so it was a lot easier.
I used pink gems and pearls to accent the pink and creme purikura of my boyf and I…
What do you think?

Finally, some fancy dress…
I went out to a club night with some friends last week, and the theme was ‘Nautical Night’ – pirates and sailors. I originally wanted to be a pirate but in the end opted for a Sailor theme.
How is this related to Gal, I hear you ask.
Well I’m sure that Gal’s love to do fancy dress as much as everyone else (possible idea for a post?!), and I tried out some new hair/make-up so I thought I’d show you.
17 Blue eye dazzle dust (poor lighting doesn’t show it off),
Dolly wink liquid & pencil eyeliner,
Accent lashes.
I curled my hair and placed it into bunches, unfortunately my hair is very thin, as you can see in the pics above. That was my hair teased!! My hair dresser keeps telling me to stop straightening, backcombing and dying my hair etc. I would opt for extensions but that wouldn’t offer my hair much relief either, haha.
Does anyone have any tips on thickening your hair – with products/vitamins etc?

Denim….

Sorry for the lack of updates over the past few days. I’ve been busy with lectures and the general stress of university lately haha.
I went shopping with some friends on Tuesday and picked up a couple of cute new items.
As you all already know, I’m not a big fan of the Western look this season. This said, I am always willing to incorporate new things into my style. Therefore I decided to at least give denim shirts a try, even if it’s just something simple (see below).
I also picked up a dress, which features roses, lace detail and a pleated bottom.
Some stores that are carrying off the denim shirt well are Duras (left) and Gilfy.
I’m leaning more towards the Duras coordinate, which I think is slightly better. I don’t like the idea of the denim shirt being the ‘whole’ outfit. Although Gilfy are working it with the belt and boots.
Hello….
Something Jenny said the other day made me realise that I don’t post enough pictures of…myself. I don’t like to whore myself out over this blog, but I think she was right when she said that it adds a more personal touch when bloggers post pictures of themselves – especially Gal bloggers.
So I guess I should start doing it more often…
Sorry about the heart but bad pout is bad. Looking at this picture really made me realise that I need to stop pairing my studded Ji.Maxx cardigan with everything…I just love it so much haha.
It was cold that day so the leopard print beret came out and at least took attention away from the mess that was my hair. The colouring of my hair on the picture is also very close to the irl version – thanks to the bf’s brilliant bathroom lighting.
My picture skills really suck at the moment, as I’m not a big fan of taking pictures of myself. Next time I’ll try to include better shots of outfits, make-up and hair.
Anyway, I apologise for the crappy entry today.
For those of you with Twitter, please feel free to add me (what’s with everyone taking bloomzy?) – I’m not a fan but I created one for the blog.

Spring/Summer ’10 collections….

I’m afraid post’s may be scarce this upcoming week, as I have to write a 20min presentation…in Japanese. I’ll still try to update though, and I hope you guys will still continue to read ๐Ÿ˜€
Mitsu has been great lately, posting the Spring/Summer ’10 collections for stores such as; duras, gilfy, spiral girl, ma*rs, lip service and many more. Check out the links at the top of her blog.
Staying with this trend I though I’d take a look at some of the other well known Gal brands and see what they have come up with.
Ji.Maxx
Floral, frills and denim seem to be the key looks in their 2010 Spring/Summer collection.
I wasn’t particularly impressed with anything I saw on the website, to be honest it all seemed a little LIZLISA-esque. There’s nothing wrong with that of course, it just seems like they’re going off course from what has made them popular in the past and instead taken the safe route. Here’s hoping they will bring out something a little more like the Ji.Maxx I know and love.
JSG
JSG are obviously avoiding the floral, cowgirl trend which was to be expected.
Instead they’re sticking with their usual logo tee’s, and over the top style. I’m not usually a fan of JSG as their clothing seems to be a little too bright – although the new items seem to be slightly less ‘funky’ than their usual stuff.
Between the two JSG is actually my favourite, which I found surprising. They’re new Spring/Summer items are fun, sexy and casual. I’m not a massive fan of the whole frills & floral look of Ji.Maxx, but even so I do love to see Gal’s carrying it off well – it really is the epitome of femininity.
Do you think Ji.Maxx carries off the Spring/Summer trend well?! Or do you prefer something a little less frilly, like JSG?!

MA*RS….

Well I am back, but unfortunately I have been struck down with flu so I apologise if my post’s aren’t up to their usual standards over the next few days ;D
MA*RS
During my visit back home I couldn’t stop thinking about a recent post Mitsu had made about the new Spring/Summer collection by MA*RS. When I first saw the post, I was entranced by the sheer Gal-ness of it all. That might sound a bit odd, but with Gal going in so many directions right now, it was nice to see something that was unique and purely Gal.
Of course I wasn’t new to MA*RS (which you can usually see in magazines such as Ageha). I just hadn’t shown a keen interest in it…until now. With it’s mixture of pinks, blacks and lace it really is the epitome of Ero-Kawaii. However…
My style is slightly more ใƒญใƒƒใ‚ฏ (a la Gilfy etc.) at the moment, but it reminded me of the way I used to dress a few years ago – when I first started at university. A bit girlier, and a lot sexier. Don’t get me wrong, the Rock look can be sexy just in a different way.
Anyway, I happened to pop into ZARA when I was back home – as the store in Norwich is a lot better to any I have come across near here (even Manchester). I don’t always shop at ZARA but some of the pieces caught my eye. For cute, affordable fashion it really is worth a look, especially as a lot of the new items are mirroring the Rock & Western looks that are showing up in Gal this season.
As I was browsing I came across some lace shorts, made to look like a skirt when worn…skorts haha. For me, this was perfect as I adore sexy, lacey short skirts, but I don’t love the chance of them blowing up so much – this is a real problem living in England during Winter haha. They immediately jumped out at me, as maybe this was the revival of my love for a sexier Gal.
I am currently planning coordinates (I constantly do this when I see/buy an item) and thinking about how I can incorporate these into my look. So you can expect some more MA*RS themed posts in the future ;D
I haven’t forgotten about what YOU have been asking for though.
The general consensus at the moment, seems to be;
  • Coordinates (from magazines, model’s etc.)
  • Shibuya 109 News (stores, trends etc.)
  • Update’s on Model’s (Jelly, Ageha etc.), more specifically from their blogs.
I will get round to doing more posts like this, just as soon as I am feeling a little better.
If you haven’t already left feedback about what you would like to see more of, please do so in the post below.

Birthday presents…

As the picture and the title of this post would suggest, I thought I would bore you all and show you what I received for my Birthday…more specifically, from my boyfriend.
My birthday actually also happens to fall on the same day as our anniversary – and last Friday also happened to be our 1 year anniversary, haha. Therefore I was treated extra special.
I was taken out on Saturday, and told to pick out something for our anniversary. He had mentioned rings, because he knew I had wanted another one. I am a swarovski addict, from the crystals to the jewellery – I can’t get enough!! So I ended up picking out this gorgeous little number to the left. It has a row of larger crystals on top and 2 rows of smaller crystals along the side. It also has hearts engraved on the inside – the perfect ring ;D
As for my birthday presents, well I was very lucky and he bought me those early, whilst we were in Tokyo.
I picked this dress out from the little known store ‘Anthony’s’ hidden away on Shibuya 109’s B2. It is grey and black striped, with stud detailing and is made from a Cashmere-esque material.
I personally love this store, albeit tiny and slightly cramped. They offer a variety of t-shirt’s, dresses etc. and brand goods, such as Chanel and Gucci. Although they are probably best known for their selection of Pet wear & goods.
The store clerk was lovely and kept complimenting my Japanese. She was also really interested to find out where I was from, and laughed when I dragged my boyfriend in to pay for the dress. She seemed to understand what was going on ;D lol
The other item I picked out in Tokyo, were these gorgeous boots. I had seen Gal’s dotted around Shinjuku, Shibuya and Harajuku sporting these during our stay. To start with I wasn’t really that interested in them, because the majority seemed a little too ‘girly-girl’ for me. But then I saw a girl wearing these with a Gilfy ensemble, and the rest is history. A lot of the cheaper stores had versions for around 3,000ๅ†† but they weren’t great quality and didn’t have the laces. I ended up in Harajuku’s, La Foret (I missed you Sami, my shopping companion!! haha), and found the above pair in ใ€Œใ‚จใƒ•ใ‚จใƒผ ใ‚ณใƒฌใ‚ฏใ‚ทใƒงใƒณใ€ a cute shoe store on the 5F.
They offer a variety of shoes, and accessories. The store clerks were fashionable and very knowledgeable. I have had problems with Japanese shoes in the past, even though I’m only a tiny UK4, therefore I voiced my concerns to the store clerk but she was very helpful. And all for a reasonable 6,000ๅ††.
I won’t be updating this weekend, as I am visiting my family back home – late Birthday presents yay~!! But I promise my next update will be a lot more Gal specific, and a lot less about myself haha.

Hair colouring….

For my first post, I thought I would talk about something close to the heart of all Gal’s and Girl’s alike…
HAIR. Namely, hair colouring…because I am slightly obsessed, haha.
I don’t know about you guys, but I have been dying my hair since I was around 15, and have been every colour under the sun. Lately I have been giving my hair a bit of a break, as it has taken a beating over the years with all the dying and ironing. But last week I saw a brilliant offer for colouring, so with my student loan in my pocket I made an appointment.

The picture to the right was taken the morning before I had my hair dyed, and the picture to the left is of me in the chair ;D
I wasn’t entirely certain what colour I wanted my hair as I was pretty happy with the colour already. So after some leafing through the latest issue of JELLY, I decided on a light copper brown. This was relatively similar to what I already had before, but a little lighter, with more golden tones.
It took 3 people during consultation and 2hrs 45mins to actually colour and cut my hair. The reason it took so long was because they had to use a separate number on the roots and ends. The final result was lovely, although I wish it had been slightly lighter. Unfortunately I am not happy with the way the flash on my camera is bringing out the colour…it just doesn’t look the same. Therefore I will post pictures later.
Now, onto the Gal aspect of hair colouring.
When Gal first started to gain a Western following, it was widely believed that you HAD TO BE BLONDE, which was partially true but as the style grew so did the options. And of course now we all know that just isn’t the case at all. In fact nowadays you can rock almost any colour you feel like…of course there are boundaries. I don’t think neon really suits anyone ;D lol
During my festive visit to 109 last month I noticed a wide variety of hair colours. From black to brown, red and platinum blonde. My personal favourite at the moment is of course coppery-brown, as rocked by this Gal (on the far right).
I would highly recommend having your hair dyed at a salon, because you just can’t get the same effect doing it yourself. Plus, these people know what they’re doing and will help you consider what colours are best for you (think of skin tone etc.).
If you really feel the need to do it yourself and want a genuine ‘Gal’ colour, then I would suggest something along the lines of Palty – endorsed by all your favourite Gal model’s.
A perfect example of the variety available to Gal’s at the moment can be seen in the following shot, featuring the model’s from JELLY;
Just look at all the gorgeous, vibrant shades. I’m so glad I didn’t see this beforehand because it would have left me with too much choice.
p.s. Please let me know how I did, criticism is highly encouraged XD
