I like pretty, shiny things…

Necklace and Earrings – Azendi*

Although I’ve toyed with gold in the past, silver has always been my number one choice for jewellery (when platinum isn’t available, darling). It’s effortlessly chic and goes with pretty much everything. In recent years I veered away from silver (apart from my rings) and I wore a lot of loud statement pieces. However as I see my personal style evolving yet again, I have rediscovered my love for the more minimalistic things in life.
Azendi sent me this sterling silver necklace and earrings to add to my ever growing jewellery collection. I couldn’t even believe the effort that the store had gone to with the packaging. Encased in a lovely big presentation box were two smaller boxes, individually wrapped up in beautiful paper and tied with a big purple ribbon. Presentation is so important, especially when you’re gifting jewellery to someone. Now I know that if I wanted to send an item from their site to a friend or family member, it would arrive looking picture perfect. The quality of the items is priority though, and I was really impressed with what I received. The silver was polished and without tarnish – silver can oxidise incredibly quickly and leave a nasty yellowish layer on top when not looked after properly (always keep your jewellery out of direct sunlight and in a box, if possible). I think Azendi’s jewellery is an absolute steal, with amazing prices for their pieces in silver, rose gold and semi/precious stones. You can buy these and more at Azendi.

Wandering around East London can sometimes feel like you’re in your own personal fashion show, as you exhibit the latest addition to your wardrobe. I love that you can feel proud of what you’re wearing and that others won’t judge your clothes. That and the fact that you’re always going to find someone dressed more outrageously than you. Now I wouldn’t say my personal style has evolved into something that exactly turns heads, but it’s good to feel comfortable in your own skin and I thoroughly believe that East London allows me to do that. Some might think the area is pretentious, and at times it can be, but I’ve never once felt that I had to live up to others expectations…although I do sometimes wonder if that’s purely because of my mind set. Either way, I love this part of town and will continue to flaunt it until I can no longer do so.

Review: Collection Lip Butter in Perfect Plum & Cappuccino

Over the last year Collection has slowly worked most of it’s products into my make-up bag. This time it’s their new Work The Colour Lip Butter, which comes in 4 shades: Perfect Plum, Cappuccino, Popping Pink and Vintage Rose. They promise a “soft and cream texture that leaves lips feeling moisturised”, leaving you with the perfect pout. I tested out perfect plum and cappuccino.

Pros:
+ Highly pigmented
+ Applies easily
+ Moisturising
+ Creamy texture

Cons:
– Wears off eventually

Notes:
I don’t own many lip crayons and no lip butters, so when these landed on my doorstep I wasn’t sure what to make of them. As indecisive as I was, I was still interested in trying them out. The packaging is simple and reminded me of crayons, which I thought was cute. The end of the stick twists to reveal more lip butter and the lids sit on well, although I wouldn’t suggest leaving these lying around in your handbag (as it comes off easily). The lip butters themselves are impressively pigmented, and apply well with no bleeding. The moisturising properties it claims are true, and the cream texture means it sits comfortably on the lips. All good so far, but unfortunately, like most lip products it fails at the final hurdle. The colour eventually wears off (and doesn’t last through eating/drinking) and leaves a slight stain on the lips. At £2.99 the price is great, I love the colour and texture too, but I don’t want to be re-applying it all the time. However I do like the look of the Vintage Rose shade, so I may pick up one of those up.

You can buy Collection’s Work The Colour Lip Butter at Boots.

Celebrate the Spirit of Summer with Rekorderlig

Rekorderlig have been bringing us a tiny piece of Sweden for a couple of years now, surprising isn’t it. It feels like this amazing brand of premium fruit cider have been around forever. They’re my staple drink when I go out (and I don’t fancy a cocktail). This Summer they decided to bring a touch of Scandinavia to Brixton at the Grand Union’s cider garden.

The event was open to the public, and you may have noticed me tweeting about tickets during the lead up to it. That’s because I felt that it was the perfect way to spend a relaxing Summer weekend with friends. We went along on the Saturday and were greeted with some coupons for food and drink (which came with the ticket). Heading straight to the bar we decided to grab a couple of bottles – Wild Berries for me. Grabbing seats in one of the floral shacks, we sipped away as we chatted and people watched. Then we were treated to a pair of sunglasses and a floral crown. To complete the look, Lucy (the MUA at the event) painted some flowers on my arm; to represent the Swedish myth that placing seven different flowers under your pillow will result in finding your true love. Whereas I’ve already found mine, it was fun to take part.

The drinks were great, with several of Rekorderlig’s best sellers on offer. There were cocktails too, and I do love a good Rekorderlig cocktail, but at £25 a pitcher it seemed a bit pricey. Instead we used the tokens given to us to grab a couple of bottles and some nibbles. There wasn’t much food going round for some reason, and we kept getting the same dish come round to us but it didn’t dampen any spirits. I think the food was so good at Rekorderlig’s Swedish Forest event that I constantly compare it at all of their events. I know, I need a slap on the wrist! Overall we had a really nice time and it was a great way to spend my Saturday afternoon.

You can recreate your own Spirit of Summer at home with Rekorderlig.

Review: Temple Spa Repose Aromatherapy Resting Cream

When I attended the Pegasus Showcase in June I was blown away by Temple Spa – a brand I previously had no knowledge of. Their products were luxurious and unique, without being too serious. So when I found their Repose Aromatherapy Resting Cream in my goodie bag I was over the moon. My battle to find the perfect night cream has been long and bumpy, and I was eager to see if Temple Spa could help me end it.

Temple Spa Repose Aromatherapy Resting Cream

+ Rich cream
+ Elegant packaging
+ Soothing
+ Moisturising
+ Calming fragrance
+ Applies well and absorbs quickly
– Slightly greasy

Final thoughts?

When I first opened the jar I was greeted by a soothing natural smell (with hints of lavender) – the kind that transports you to your favourite spa. The cream is very rich so when I first applied it I was worried my skin would react badly. However it soaked the cream up quickly, leaving behind supple, moisturised skin, with a lovely fragrance. The fragrance is incredibly relaxing, which makes this perfect for use at bed time. I can’t vouch for the anti-ageing benefits but I can say that my skin loves this cream. If you have greasy skin don’t worry. I used it on my oily T-Zone and it hasn’t made it any oilier (that doesn’t sound like it should be a word). Combined with the aromatherapy aspect, this is more than just your average night cream. It aids the skin, body and mind. At £38 it’s on the higher end of the price spectrum, but it’s certainly worth investing in. I know how hard it is to find a decent night cream so I will be tracking this down when I run out!
You can purchase Temple Spa’s Repose Aromatherapy Resting Cream at Temple Spa, Harrods and Selfridges.
