Street snaps and store fronts….

Well I was planning to write a review of a few Japanese make-up products today, but I went out with some friends last night and I don’t really think I’m in the best state for it haha
However I will not leave you empty handed. I took a few photos of some Gal store fronts on Friday and a couple of street snaps during the last night’s festivities, so enjoy ;D
WC, in Shinjuku Lumine EST
Definitely the best looking of all their Tokyo stores,
but wayyyyy too small inside.
Emoda – loved this store, so gorgeous.
Murua – there were plenty of chic staff-chan here.
Street Snaps
I adored this Gal, she had a real Nonoka-vibe.
These Gals were so cute and sweet.
I loved that one of them had the Gilfy U.K flag skirt.
Sorry for the pixel-heart noses, just want to preserve peoples privacy as much as possible.
Is this something you guys would be interested in seeing more of?
I want to update more often but I don’t usually have the time to make big posts during the week, so I’d like to maybe do little ‘filler’ posts when I can.
Please let me know your ideas on what you would like to see.

Model update; Mori Maya pregnant & married…

I haven’t done a model update for a while, but as this concerns one of my favourites I’ll let it slide ;D
Yesterday I was looking at the latest magazines in my local bookstore when the new issue of JELLY caught my eye. Not only because it is much bigger than usual, but because of the cover. Mori Maya & Yamamoto Yuuki (who recently blogged about her pregnancy and up-coming marriage) grace the cover, which made me a little nervous as it had a ‘wedding-y’ vibe to it…that and the fact that is says ‘We will get married’ on the cover haha XD
So I leafed through and it turns out that Mori Maya got married recently…and is pregnant!! She is marrying a non-celebrity – I always find it funny that they mention this – and looks very happy. In case you didn’t know Yuuki is marrying actor Miura Riki
Maya & Yuuki at a recent runway show.
Maya is my favourite JELLY model and has been for a while. I always enjoy seeing her coords on her blog, and her advertisements in stores etc.
I’m very happy for her, I’m just a little sad as this means she will probably disappear for a while – and very soon at that, she is due in December – and who’s to say whether she’ll come back or not. She doesn’t exactly have the same following as Tsubasa did when she fell pregnant and left Popteen, so a big comeback like Tsu-chans seems unlikely.
But Maya is arguably of marrying age (in Japanese terms) and I wish her, her husband and her little baby the best and I hope to see her gracing covers/products soon.
Maya showing off her baby bump.
The latest issue of JELLY features photos from the ceremony and talks about her dresses (some of which I think she designed herself) and what the other JELLY girls were wearing.
Next months issue will feature Yuuki’s ceremony.

Mooks: Are they worth it?

Lately I have been looking at and buying the latest Mooks for some of my favourite brands A/W collections. I was thinking of maybe doing a post about them and whether they are worth investing in, then I read Kirin’s review of the Kitson mook (bad quality, unfortunately) and Hana asked me whether I thought the WC mook was worth the money, so I finally decided to go ahead with it.
What are Mooks?
Mooks are basically glorified catalogue magazines, made in the style of books (magazine + book = mook). They feature the majority of a brands collection for that season, but also include things such as guest models, staff coordinates and special offers etc. – although this varies depending on the brand. Mooks aren’t limited to only Gal brands either. Well known Western brands such as Cath Kidston and Yves Saint Laurent have also released mooks previously.
But the main selling point of mooks are the FREE GIFTS!! Of course every girl loves a free gift with her magazine, but the ones that come with mooks tend to be a bit better quality but then you are paying more for the mook than you would a regular magazine. The free gifts are so popular (remember the CHER bags?) that some people only buy the mook for the gift – I may be included in this category ;D
Review; Cecil McBee
The Cecil McBee A/W mook was the first one I purchased when I arrived – it was also one of the first to be released of the Gal brands, along with Emoda (which I didn’t buy as it seemed too pricey for a make-up bag which I didn’t need and gel liner which I wouldn’t use).
The magazine side of it features a special editorial with Risa Hirako, who looks stunning at 39!! See people, if you have attitude and a decent stylist Gal has no age limit ;D
Other models also make an appearance throughout the mook and the A/W collection is done justice with some gorgeous photoshoots and a very good layout. My favourite part was seeing what the shop staff were wearing and the feature on how to use an item of clothing and make two outfits from it – elegant and gal.
The free gift with the CM mook was a small reversible tote bag. When I say small, it is quite tiny but it fits my wallet, phone and camera in, so I was quite impressed. The bag itself has a black fur design on one side with a gold Cecil McBee logo – and the other side is leopard print with the CM initials. I personally prefer the fur side as fur is going to be big this season, and it makes more sense to me to have a thinner, more durable fabric on the inside.
I thought the Cecil McBee mook was overall a good purchase. The free gift was stylish and useful. The only complaint I have is that the mook was the same price as the Gilfy one, which featured a much bigger bag as the free gift.
You can see some scans from the mook here @ Universal-doll.
Review; W♥C
I had been looking everywhere for the W♥C mook for a few weeks and then I happened upon it when popping out to buy hair dye. I hadn’t realised that it had only been due out that day – silly me.
The W♥C mook doesn’t feature any special appearances by other models, but then why would they need to when Chinatsu is the producer? Although it does feature some amazingly colourful and gorgeous photoshoots, shot in familiar sights such as Shibuya. But that’s mainly where it stops. Unlike the CM mook, the W♥C one is more like a bigger version of their catalogue and has been done in the same style.
It also features a link to the W♥C webstore where you can purchase items with a special password found in the mook. This is a good marketing strategy as fans of the brand will purchase the mook just for the chance to get special items. However the ‘special items’ were mainly variations on other things, which was a bit of a let down.
The free gift was a W♥C tote bag, with Kumatan print. This was the main reason I wanted the mook, as the tote bag looked adorable and I didn’t yet have anything with the Kumatan print. The bag was on the small side, but still managed to fit all my stuff in but the handles could have been a bit longer. The one thing I was annoyed with was that there was a small hole in my bag and whereas I know you can call the company and claim a new one, my Japanese isn’t that good and I don’t have the time. It can be repaired though, so no worries.
Visually the W♥C mook is very appealing and I loved the way the A/W collection was shown. Chinatsu, as always, is gorgeous and brings the clothing to life. I just wish that the bag had been a little bigger and wasn’t damaged.
Price wise, I was a little upset as this one was the most expensive of the bunch at 1,200円 (£9.25/$14.25) and it seemed a bit steep.
Review; Gilfy
Thanks to Gilfy’s popularity I was able to pick up the mook in my local Lawson.
You may remember Gilfy’s Summer catalogue being produced by Jelly – the one with the free hat and tote bag, which was a great deal. Well their A/W mook is produced by Vivi, which means all the models featured are from Vivi magazine. Rinka takes the glory of the front page and the first editorial, which I’m sure Jenny will be very pleased with. Lena is also featured in an editorial and various other models are used throughout the rest of the mook.
I’m not a big fan of Vivi so that didn’t really appeal to me, but I did enjoy the staff-chan coordinates and the make-up tutorials. Especially the one featuring Gilfy’s Emina, who looks lovely even without make-up btw.
The photoshoots in the mook were ok, but not incredibly inspiring. Some of them were even ruined by one of the models (can’t remember her name, but recognise her face) who refused to shut her mouth in them – not attractive and incredibly annoying.
It also seemed a little too busy when it came to showing off the clothes. It was like they were trying to do high-fashion editorials rather than just simple photoshoots to show off the new items. I preferred the simpler shots where you could see the clothing and it didn’t seem as though they were trying to hard to be something they’re not.
The free gift that came with the mook was a large plastic leopard print tote, with fabric lining and the Gilfy tag. I personally think this is the best gift out of all the ones I purchased. It is incredibly large and is the perfect size for my textbooks etc. It’s on trend with the leopard print and it’s durable. Thumbs up for Gilfy ;D
Price wise, the Gilfy mook was the same as the Cecil McBee one at 980円 (£7.60/$12.60). I personally would have paid that for the bag alone, and even though I wasn’t a big fan of the inside of the mook (nowhere near as good as the ‘produced by Jelly’ one) I will still be checking out the latest items and making a wish-list XD
Which mooks catch your eye?
Do you think they’re worth the money?

Shibuya and 109….

Perky promotional Gal invites you in.
The last week I have been so busy meeting with friends, that I ended up going to Shibuya on Tue, Wed and Friday. I don’t know how I made it through the days this week – we’ve had highs of 37 degrees. That’s crazy!!
So this post is just going to be about coordinates, make-up and purchases (of course I ended up in 109 a few times) from those past few days. I also included some fun photos that I took on those days, all Gal related of course ;D
I actually haven’t added a few things in this picture as I purchased them later but that can be for another post ;D
I picked up the WC Tiger t-shirt before the sale ended and managed to get it half price, which I’m quite pleased with. I bought the SBY scrunchie and S.12.C (109-2) skirt as inspiration from the t-shirt haha. It’s terrible how I fashion an outfit around one item, and I won’t give up until I find what I want.
As you can see I picked up quite a few of the A/W catalogues from the stores too. I choose MA*RS, Gilfy, Lip Service and Heaven & Earth (for Maya Mori). I received the W♥C one when I made a purchase.
I also bought the Cecil McBee A/W Mook as it came with a free fur tote bag, which is reversible to leopard print – very cute – and picked up the new issue of JELLY. I did have pics of them, but I took them on my camera…the one with the missing cable D:
Coordinates & Make-up
Crop top: H&M
Bandage skirt: H&M
Usamimi: H&M
Bag: Gilfy

T-Shirt: W♥C
Skirt: S.12.C (109-2)
Nude lips are growing on me, so I’m currently hunting for a good lipstick.
I’m considering one by KATE at the moment.
Close-up of my eye make;
Orange & blue shadow, liner and criss-cross lashes.
Finally bought some under-lashes the other day so review soon.
Nothing special, just something to chill in.
Vest: tutuHA
Shorts: Gilfy
And a few bonus pics I took around Shibuya…
These Gals were so cute, just lounging in the heat and enjoying an ice cream.
The 2nd girl from the left was so energetic when I asked for a photo that she replied in English with a big “YES!”
The girl on the far left was really sweet too. She thought I was only asking the others for a photo, and she quietly asked if she could be in it too.
One of them turned away from the camera, until the 2nd girl moaned at her and gave her a push. I didn’t hear but she was probably telling her to stop being so moody ;D
Can you tell which one didn’t want to be in the photo?
Introducing the gorgeous Gaby in all her Co&Lu lovelyness. I’ve known Gaby for about 5 years now and she’s from my hometown. How ridiculous is it that we’re both living in Tokyo for a year (for diff reasons), at the same time XD
And finally, I shall leave you with a picture of yours truly ;D
I look like such a mess next to this lovely W♥C staff-chan – props to anyone who can link me to her blog. She was so cute and liked that we had the same t-shirt on. I also love that we both felt the leopard print vibe with our coordinates.

Just a quick update….

That’s me on the far left. I’ve let myself go recently ;D
I am back, and in Tokyo – did you miss me?
My flights went rather well, in that I arrived fine. Although 9 hours in Dubai and then another 9 hours without the tv in the back of my screen working didn’t go so well.
I am also a little mad as the airport staff in either Dubai or Tokyo went through my luggage, which I discovered when I picked it up in Tokyo. They broke a zip on my holdall, messed all my stuff up, crumpled my usamimi (it’s still ok though) and either stole or lost my camera lead – which means I can’t upload any photos right now for the blog D:
Apart from that I have been having a good time. The apartment is really nice, and I’ve already made some lovely new friends with 2 German girls who I showed around Akihabara and Shinjuku yesterday. They wanted to go to Akiba to buy some hair straighteners so I offered to take them to Donki. As you can see in the photo above, we had a pretty good time…and no, we didn’t go into the ‘Adult Store’ XD
In terms of Gal, I was only on the train from Narita for 5 mins before a few got on.
One thing I noticed was that they weren’t drenched in lables, just simple, probably cheaper brand clothes but you could still tell they were Gal from their make-up and hair – which was straight, shock horror. One of them even had black hair – omg not following teh rulz of Gal – ok ok /sarcasm, but you get my point ;D
I also saw some adorable twin coordinates being done in Shinjuku and a lot of Gals already going for more Autumn-y looks. Do they not feel the 35 degree heat/humidity?! :O
I am pretty busy the beginning of this week, but I am planning on visiting 109 so I shall definitely post something a bit more interesting soon.

Recent/Holiday Coordinates….

☆ ~ French Macarons ~ ☆

I can’t believe it’s been a week since I updated last. I’ve been so busy sorting out everything, as I’M MOVING TO TOKYO NEXT WEEK!! Haha I still can’t quite believe it myself…it’s odd. Can’t wait though. Unfortunately I have some bad news, before I hound you with my latest coordinates. The ‘Gaijin Gyaru’ series is on a small hiatus, until I settle in. Sorry!! It’s just going to be a very hectic first few months, so I need to concentrate. I will still be updating whenever I can, I just won’t be able to send out the last few interviews just yet.

Recent Coordinates

Tshirt: Peacocks | Jeans: Primark | Scarf: H&M | Jewelry: Swarovski

You’ll see this tie-dye shirt and the necklace a couple of times in this post, coz I love them so much XD

The boyf bought me this Swarovski necklace for our 18 month anniversary. I wasn’t expecting anything but he saw me looking on the website and knew how much I wanted it.

Tshirt: Peacocks | Shorts: GILFY | Bag: tutuHA

I am sending out some tutuHA love to Sara Mari with this one. I think she loves the store just as much, if not more, than me ;D

Holiday & Coordinates

As you’ll see, I didn’t take too many photos of my coords whilst I was on holiday. And I didn’t wear anything too amazing, but I think that was down to the heat (around 33c) and the fact that I spent 1/2 of the day in the pool XD Anyway, here are some photos of my holiday in Provence:

The boyf’s house

Top: TOPSHOP | Skirt: H&M

This outfit was inspired by the gorgeous Ena, and this coord of hers.
Sorry for the lack of accessories, I always tend to put them on last before I rush out haha

Top: H&M | Skirt: Republic | Headband: H&M

This was another inspired coord. I wanted a casual Mode look and I really liked this one (centre) from JELLY.

Shirt: Primark | Romper: H&M | Sunglasses: Primark | Accessories: H&M

And with a more attractive background

I may not get the chance to update before I leave for Tokyo, on Wednesday (I arrive on Thur evening)…but I will be updating my twitter so keep an eye out.

Twin coordinate….

Tori and I recently decided to do a ‘Mode’ twin coordinate post, after the fabulous WC one she did with Mitsu. I feel so lucky to be able to do a twin post with Tori, as she’s such a gorgeous gal and she always does the latest trends justice.

A teaser ;D
Hair & Make

I went for bronze eyes, using a Chanel palette and Tokyo lashes, with my favourite Ena Matsumoto inspired bun.
Tori choose simple but sexy make-up and ardell lashes #134, with some gorgeous curls – I’m so envious.
The coordinates
My coordinate –
Lace top: H&M
Bandage skirt: H&M
Headband: H&M
Scarf: H&M
Shoes: H&M
Jewlery: Swarovski

I wanted to put together an outfit that was Mode but still accessible to us Western gals, and I was incredibly lucky as H&M has had some amazing stuff recently.
So I decided to show you the basis of my outfit and then how to make it that little bit more Mode by using accessories. The headband and scarf were both inspirations I got from Momoko Ogihara – the gorgeous face of Murua.
I forgot to take a pic with my necklace on, so I did it afterwards for you 😀
…I put a vest top on under the lace top for the close-up. I don’t want to scare anyone haha
Tori’s Coordinate –
Top: GalStar
Skirt: Candie’s
Necklace: Target
Shoes: Used
As you can tell we both made Bandage skirts the theme of this coordinate.
I think this shows just how effective they are. You can make two completely different Mode looks out of one skirt, just by adding a few accessories etc.
I think Tori summed up our outfits perfectly when she said:
“…yours is SO SEXY, very MURUA style since Momoko really likes the see-through lace tops & scarf belts, & I think I went more rock-kei-influenced with the studs & leopard print (& fall EMODA shows a lot of leopard! ;D)

I hope you enjoyed our twin coordinates, and I’d love to see more gals doing it! It’s so much more fun to dress up when you have someone to do it with XD
