Review: Angel Edge Series – Brown Circle Lenses

Angel Colour Edge Series Brown (CM-834) colour contact lenses*
Power/Prescription: 0.00 (plano) ~ -10.00
Lens Usage: Up to 12 months (depending on care)
Base Curve Radius: 8.6mm
Diameter: 14mm
Water Content: 38%
I have blue-grey eyes, so the effect may differ on those with darker eyes.

The Angel Colour edge series is designed with a thicker, darker circle on the edge of the contact. This helps create a ‘dolly eye’ effect. The Angel Color series are also one of the best selling brands on the market, so you know they’re good lenses.
Now onto the pictures…
These were taken midday, in Spring lighting, with no flash.

Look:
I thought these lenses were gorgeous! They enhanced my eyes and were the perfect shade of brown. The black edge and flecks in the lenses made them stand out even more. In my opinion they give off a 14.5mm lens effect, thanks to the outer ring. I was really surprised that they blended so well with my blue-grey eyes, but of course they would work even better if you have brown.
I choose simple make-up to compliment my lenses, as I was going for a more mature, nude look. Although I think they would also work well with some darker colours for a dramatic look, or lighter shades for a sweet, dolly look a la Kumicky.
Feel:
These were comfortable as soon as I put them in. There was minor irritation during the day as I wore them for 8+ hours, but it wasn’t anything too bad and was solved by popping some solution in my eyes. I definitely prefer 14mm lenses for the feel and these are no exception.
If it is your first time wearing lenses, take it slowly and wear them for only a few hours each day so your eyes will get used to them. I wouldn’t suggest wearing your lenses for too long unless you know it will be ok, and if they get dry just pop some contact lens-friendly eye solution in – never use water!

Thoughts:
I fell in love with these lenses as soon as I put them in. They are such a vibrant brown and they really stand out. I feel that they can suit a variety of looks in gal, but most importantly they really go well with my current love for mode-inspired, mature looks.

These have joined my top 3 lenses list and I will definitely be wearing them again and again!!

Life in Paris; ‘Japan Town’ pt.1

This time I decided to do an entry about ‘Japan Town’, located on the Rue Saint Anne street (I’m going to split this into 2 parts as some of the places in this area aren’t located on the same street).

Paris has a large population of Japanese residents and so it’s only fitting that there is an area dedicated to the country…or at least the street which tourists and locals alike have dubbed as ‘Japan Town‘.

Rue St Anne is relatively easy to find. Take Line 14 (purple line) to Pyramides and go out of the exit on the right hand side. You’ll see the store 「ニャンニャン&ワンワン」(pet store) in front of you – turn right and walk to the end of the street – don’t cross the road. Take a sharp left and you will see the Rue St Anne sign on the building and K-Mart to your right. This is the beginning of ‘Japan Town’.

Since I mentioned K-Mart it seems only fitting to tell you a little about it.

As the name would suggest it is a Korean market. However it does also stock Japanese products and is in my opinion one of the best places to go to for Japanese food items, in the area.

They stock Korean and Japanese; instant noodles, cooking ingredients, drinks, confectionery, fresh meat/vegetables and much more!

Of course, with the products being imported they can be a little pricey, however it’s a price most are willing to pay when you can’t get them elsewhere.

There is also a Japanese market (expensive) and a few other Korean/Japanese/Chinese markets in the area. One of which is at the end of Rue St Anne and is called Ace Mart where you can buy…

Melon Soda & Calpis Soda
Apparently those were two things my friends couldn’t be without because they had to buy them, even at the crazy price of €2.40 – however I may have to go back for some melon soda at some point haha
What if you just want to eat out?!
Well you’re in luck!

Rue St Anne is probably most well known for its variety of Japanese restaurants…

From Sushi to Okonomiyaki there are plenty of places to choose from. Ramen and Sushi are in abundance in ‘Japan Town’ with a couple of Okonomiyaki and Udon restaurants littered in-between. There is also a bakery that sells some Japanese baked goods (I’ve been told they have melon pan and matcha eclairs), but I have yet to purchase anything from it.

The best restaurants usually have crowds outside them in the evenings and at weekends. This is one of those times where it’s best to move with the crowd – sometimes its worth waiting, otherwise you can always make a reservation and come back at a later date/time.

I visited HIGUMA ひぐま, which is one of the many ramen stores on the street.

On a Saturday night this place is packed full of people, which is surprising as the majority of the chefs are Chinese. Even so they do have some Japanese staff and the menu is full of genuine Japanese recipes.

 An English Menu is available.

Of course it may not taste the same as the Japanese food you had in Japan but it’s pretty close! They even had…
 KATSU CURRY!!
My favourite Japanese dish~
Ramen soup

I did also try out another ‘Japanese’ restaurant on the street. I won’t mention the name but it was at the end of the road and it certainly wasn’t Japanese. The menu and food were blatantly Cantonese which was a big let down as the prices were reasonable (that should have been an indicator).

That is my only warning about the restaurants on the street, otherwise take your time browsing the many places to eat and enjoy yourself~

‘Japan Town’ Part 2. will include where to buy Japanese magazines, movies, music and more!

Say hello to GLiA!

ハロー!
My copy of GLiA arrived today from my lovely Japanese friend (thank you~), so I thought I would do a little write up about it…
So what is GLiA? It’s the lastest Gal magazine to hit the shelves and it comes from the makers of EGG to which it is the ‘older sister‘. That may sound a bit odd, I mean how can a magazine be an ‘older sister’?!
Well it’s quite simple actually. It’s a more mature version of what you would usually find featured in Egg, and is aimed at 20+ rather than the ‘teen’ crowd Egg usually goes for – like PopSister is to Popteen.

Who are the models? The makers didn’t want to stray too far from their roots, so they picked a handful of well-known models from Egg and a few other gorgeous Gals. Like PopSister, they carried over one of their most successful models to be the spokeswoman, and that was…ろみひ, of course!
She has been with the magazine for years and has always been a fan favourite. Recently her style has matured, along with herself and so she was the perfect choice for GLiA.

Yumachi and Aina join in along with other models such as; Anna Fujita, Yenah Hirano, Iena Hirai, Reina Kizu and more.

And the content…the content is great!!

FASHION

I thought ‘night snaps’ was a nice idea.
I wanna know what people are partyin’ in!

 Plenty of street snaps (9 pages!), categorised in ways such as;
shop staff, outer, hair pieces etc.

MAKE-UP

HAIR

How to wear this seasons hair accessories.

With 14 pages worth of hair and make-up tutorials, I was sold!!
I don’t think many Gal mags offer enough tutorials, and even though some of the make-up in GLiA did look a little similar there was still plenty to choose from and practise with. The hair tutorials were great and had a range of styles for long and short hair.

– final thoughts? –

As it’s a new magazine on the scene it has been compared to other more well-known ones, which is a little unfair. Even so I felt that GLiA holds it own against the other rivals. Slight warning though, don’t expect the content to be like EGG because it really isn’t…apart from the models. It’s more along the lines of Jelly and Happie Nuts. Although I think it has a more refreshing and appealing layout to some similar magazines that like to cram in as much as possible.

If it manages to keep up with the same layout and content it brought out in this issue I think it will soon become a firm favourite~♥

And with a slogan such as; 「Glia is… no rule woman’s style bible」 I think it’s certainly going to try it’s best!!

Disclaimer: I didn’t upload the whole magazine as there were so many great pieces that it’s definitely worth investing in for yourself. I also apologise for the photos – I don’t have a scanner here in Paris.

Check out my room!

Thank you to all of those who entered the poll – and for those of you who didn’t, well you still can!

As some of you who follow my twitter may know I was given a very small baggage allowance by my university when travelling to Paris – ONLY 14KG!! I swear my suitcase weighs about 4kg by itself…so I had to pack lightly!
Then when I got to Paris I was placed in a rather awkward accommodation situation…But you have to make the best of things, right?
So anyway, how about taking a peek at my room & some of the stuff I took?!

Review: BK Nail Polish & Nail Foils

This post is sponsored by born pretty
Recently, bornprettystore sponsored me with some of their new matt nail polishes and their new nail foils. I don’t actually own any matt polishes/foils so I was pleased to try these out and add them to my collection…

The two colours together~
One of the best things about this polish is that it dries super quickly!
The white went on especially well and gave such a great colour. I was in love with it as soon as I had applied it. The maroon was also nice, but not really my kind of shade – oh well, you gotta take a chance.
With some decoration.
I think this shows the colour off well.
Nail foils are popping up everywhere and can be bought in stores and online. However they can be rather pricey but bornpretty have managed to offer a great set of foils for a very cheap price.
They’re simply stickers in various colours and designs which you can attach to your nails (be them real, or fake) as a whole or as part of a design…
My first attempt~

The foils were difficult to cut-out and put on to start with, but after the first few I got the hang of it. I didn’t want to go for a full nail, instead I opted for a design. I don’t think I did too bad, no?
If you can cut it out of the foils you can put it on your nails!!
The foils lasted about a week (due to washing hands etc.) and the polish almost two with minimal chipping!! I was really impressed by the quality and life of the two products, and would certainly buy more of the polishes! As for the foils, they’re not exactly for everyday use as I change my nails often – therefore a pack would last me for quite a while.
Want to order some of these or more?!
Then visit born pretty store now!!
Worldwide shipping is available!
Born Pretty also offer wholesale prices on all their products and if you spend over $200, EMS shipping is free!!

Life in Paris!

I thought I’d create a series (similar to ‘Life in Japan‘) for my time in Paris.
I’ll also try to update regularly whilst I am here, with goings-on and of course the usual gal news etc.
A quick code snap for you.

To be honest it wasn’t very good.
