Discuss: ‘Snaggletooth’ Trend

We all know that Japan loves their trends and fads, nothing new there. The most recent ‘trend’ that seems to be the in-topic of discussion lately, is the ‘snaggletooth’ trend. Snaggletooth is an American term, which refers to pointing out or crooked teeth (prominent canines). In Japan it is called Tsuke Yaeba. This isn’t a new trend, but it has become so popular that a new girl group has been created around the term – check out TYB48 (see what they did there?) in the above photo. They were chosen through a dental clinic that specializes in the trend.
Dental care isn’t that amazing in Japan, and wonky teeth are quite common, although braces are becoming more popular with younger generations. So whereas the term has negative connotations in the West, a lot of Japanese people find it cute and endearing. Why?! Well apparently a more ‘homely’ look attracts more suitors.

The trend has become so popular in Japan that a dental surgery in Tokyo’s luxurious Ginza district has started offering it as a service. Women have been spending around $400 on treatments that will allow them to achieve the look. Don’t worry though their teeth aren’t pulled around and moved about! Plastic caps are placed over the teeth to create the effect.
I personally think it’s sweet that ‘wonky teeth’ aren’t seen as unattractive in Japan, and there isn’t as much pressure on having perfect whites. However I am someone who went through having braces etc. to improve my teeth. I also don’t like the idea of altering this kind of part of my body, just to be seen as attractive, so I personally wouldn’t do it.

What do you think of the trend?
Would you be willing to alter your body just to stay fashionable, or find a partner?

Event: Boux Avenue Norwich Store Opening

On Tuesday I was invited to the press preview for the Boux Avenue store opening in Norwich, Chapelfield.
I had heard big things about the store, and as someone who finds it difficult to buy bigger sizes in cute/sexy designs
(one of their big selling points!), I jumped at the chance to attend.
This post is picture heavy, so I have put everything under a cut to make it easier for you.
Click ‘read more’ to view the rest of the post.

Bras on display, and the handy ‘size draws’ that mean you don’t have to rummage through the rack.
I love this idea! It makes finding your size so much easier, and it means tidy shelves – I hate clutter.

A selection of their lingerie – love the clashing colours!

Inside the fitting rooms, which offer plenty of space, big mirrors and adjustable lighting.
There’s also a telecom system so you don’t have to poke your head out to call for assistance!

Boux Avenue don’t just do underwear!
They also sell swimwear, pyjamas, accessories and beauty products.
Their pyjamas are adorable! I personally want the ones posted above.

My gift bag from the event, which included some of their hand cream, lip balm and some underwear.
We were also given a gift card, which was very sweet and helped towards the bras I wanted.
Finally, a lovely picture of the staff who helped out on the day.
Why did I take their picture? Look at their tights & shoes!! After speaking to them about their uniforms they told me that they’re give a LBD and are allowed to customise it how they wish. That really stood out to me as a great way to keep the brand classy but fun & personal – such a great idea.

I was completely won over by the store! Their staff were absolutely lovely, and really sweet.
I had a bra fitting and the lady who helped me explained everything about the process and their bras. I’ve had quite a few bra fittings in the past, but not like this. It was personal and thorough. I ended up buying the two bras I tried on. I personally think Theo is on to a winner here. He knows what women want when it comes to lingerie, and Boux Avenue is definitely it!

Photo Diary: Life in general

Personalised easter egg, foxes hanging in a hotel bar, the diet of a Coeliac,
odd pig statue, dissertation was finally handed in, so shopping ban was lifted,
fringe was in need of a cut, business cards were made for the blog, matching nails & trousers,
parents (&dog) came to visit, hot chocolate with everything on top, and my favourite chocolate shop in Kendal.

As the ‘Instagram Weekly’ posts I did kinda fizzled out, I haven’t really posted anything since, unless you check out the sidebar widget I have. So I thought I would post some pictures from the last few weeks, just in case some of you are still interested in my boring life…and if you are, thank you.

MUA x Alexandra Burke Lip Boom

Yesterday evening MUA finally let us all know what their latest product/collaboration was.
What’s funny is it tied in so perfectly with the post I made yesterday morning. Maybe I’m a little psychic, or maybe it’s just a big coincidence…not gonna lie, it’s probably the latter.

Say hello to MUA’s ‘Lip Boom’, a 4 in 1 Lipstick & Highlighting Gloss.
The product will come in 8 shades and will be released on 9th May, at only £3 each!
The packaging itself, which has been popping up all over Twitter & Instagram, claims that it will create fuller, more curvaceous lips. I’m all for fuller lips and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Alexandra Burke, for my non-UK readers, is a British singer.
I don’t know her personally, but she has always come across as a lovely, sweet person with an amazing sense of style, and flawless make-up. MUA picked a great person to collaborate with in my opinion.
I plan to buy quite a few of them and review them asap!
Will you guys be picking any up?

Review: MUA Lipstick & Maxfactor Gloss

Last month I reviewed a couple of MUA’s lipsticks and mentioned about trying them out with a gloss.
I decided to try them out with a couple of my favourite go-to glosses, by Maxfactor. These were given to me at Christmas, in a set, by a friend who works as a make-up artist for the brand – the full size versions are a lot bigger. I wanted to
mix up a cheaper brand & a more expensive one – to show you that you don’t always need to spend lots of money to achieve a lovely pout!
To achieve my look I used:
Final Results:
I absolutely adored the look of MUA Shade #16 & Maxfactor Bubbly (photo #3) – it gave me the perfect ‘baby lips’, which a lot of brands have been aiming for with their looks and products lately. The colour is a little more pink-coral in person (trust the iPhone) and it’s the perfect shade for Spring/Summer! I was also happy with MUA Shade #15 & Maxfactor Bubbly (photo #1) which I think created a nice nude look. It would suit a natural look or just something a bit simpler. As for MUA Shade #12 & Maxfactor Majeste (photo #2) – it created a lovely bold lip, for a more dramatic look.
You can purchase MUA’s Lipsticks here.
You can purchase Maxfactor’s Vibrant Curve Effect Glosses here.
I think Bubbly may have been discontinued, sorry.

Review: Glossybox Burberry Lipstick #4 Rosewood

This is the first review I’m doing for a product from Glossybox.
The Burberry Lipstick (lip cover) was one of the most anticipated items in the Harrods Glossybox.
Hopefully I can shed some light on this infamous beauty product.

Swatches

Pros:
+ Nice shine.
+ Handbag size.
+ Pigmented Colour.
+ Nice, sweet smell to the lipstick.
+ Didn’t dry out my lips & mildly moisturising.
+ Love the packaging & design on the product!
Cons:
– Poor choice of colour to represent the product.
– I wish the product had been bigger.
Notes
Honestly, I don’t think the lipstick was worth the hype and this is mainly because I don’t feel Glossybox or Harrods did a good enough job in representing Burberry and the product. True, the product does feel ‘luxury’ but to me Burberry are all about classic items for every woman, whilst still remaining fun and on-trend. I don’t think a brown-y red lipstick really promotes that, but maybe I’m wrong. Personally I would have chosen a pink or classic red, as not only is it more appealing but it’s better suited to more skin tones, whilst this colour is not.

That said I do see myself getting good use out of the product.
The colour may not have been my first choice, but it’s highly pigmented and has a nice soft shine.
The product didn’t dry out my lips and whilst I didn’t find it ‘intensely moisturising’ my lips did feel soft.
Would I buy the full size one?
Not in this colour, and as it’s only slightly cheaper (£23) than a Chanel lipstick I might consider it,
if I found a more fitting colour.
Purchase it at Harrods, here.
