Scarves, Deco and Sailors?!

The ‘Scarf’ Trend
A few examples from April issue of Happie Nuts.
I’m sure you have all noticed or at least heard by now about the current Scarf boom in Gal. If not then definitely check out this post by Mitsu – everything you need to know, and a little how-to for those a bit unsure of what to do.
Scarves can be seen in most current issues of Gal magazines, whether worn on the head or as an accessory – although the head scarf seems to be most popular right now.
And all of the models are working it; Popteen’s Wei Son & Yui Kanno, Momoeri, Romihi is stocking up on Bandanas from SBY, and it’s also a fave with Nori & Tae.
I had a go this past week, and here are a few pics;
Left; Regular scarf made into a bow
Right; Ready-made lace bow, wrapped around my bun (thanks Samispo0n).
The ‘hippie’ look that a few models seem to be working.
And to prove that even animals can work the current Gal trend…
My puppy – Sam XD
What do you think of the current Scarf trend?

Deco-Den
You may remember one of my fledgling posts about deco-ing my cellphone, here.
Well I had a long train journey back to uni this weekend, so I thought I’d give it a go – yes on the train, haha. No I’m not crazy, I cheated and used a glue sheet on the phone, so it was a lot easier.
I used pink gems and pearls to accent the pink and creme purikura of my boyf and I…
What do you think?

Finally, some fancy dress…
I went out to a club night with some friends last week, and the theme was ‘Nautical Night’ – pirates and sailors. I originally wanted to be a pirate but in the end opted for a Sailor theme.
How is this related to Gal, I hear you ask.
Well I’m sure that Gal’s love to do fancy dress as much as everyone else (possible idea for a post?!), and I tried out some new hair/make-up so I thought I’d show you.
17 Blue eye dazzle dust (poor lighting doesn’t show it off),
Dolly wink liquid & pencil eyeliner,
Accent lashes.
I curled my hair and placed it into bunches, unfortunately my hair is very thin, as you can see in the pics above. That was my hair teased!! My hair dresser keeps telling me to stop straightening, backcombing and dying my hair etc. I would opt for extensions but that wouldn’t offer my hair much relief either, haha.
Does anyone have any tips on thickening your hair – with products/vitamins etc?

Chinatsu Wakatsuki’s new hairstyle….

Chinatsu Wakatsuki, founder of the new 109 store ‘W♥C’ updated her blog today talking about a recent visit to Osaka to meet with some people concerning the store. Whilst she was there she popped into ‘VIRGO‘ and came out with a shocking new hairstyle. Partially shaved down the side with the letter’s BB (Big Bang) also shaved into her hair.
For now it looks like she could cover this with the top layer of hair, but it still came as a surprise when I glanced at her blog.
About the Gal…
I will admit, I am another one of the many out there currently jumping on the 千夏Bandwagon. But can you really blame me? The girl is cute, sexy, she has talent, attitude and a whole lot of personality. One of the main reasons I admire her, is because of her fashion sense – that includes her hairstyles. I have yet to see her wearing an outfit I don’t like (let’s not count her days as a Gravure idol lol).
Her style is so refreshing as are the items that can be found in ‘W♥C’, but I was really taken aback by this sudden change. I personally wouldn’t be able to rock the partially shaved head, but I have seen plenty of girls who can.
Of course Gal doesn’t always have to be about long flowing hair, with volume and big puffy curls. I personally like the shorter haircuts or the rock/punk inspired looks that are becoming more popular lately – it’s nice to see a change and a little variety.
Maybe Chinatsu will end up starting a new trend?
She does seem to be one of the current ‘it’ girls right now. Either way it just seems temporary on her part and I’m afraid this look just isn’t for me. Although I am interested to see how she will work it.
So what do you guys think?
Can you be Gal and do something so extreme?

Edit; Thanks to Mitsu who mentioned that this is now becoming more popular with the 109 W♥C staff. Looks like Chinatsu certainly has started something ;D

Hair colouring….

For my first post, I thought I would talk about something close to the heart of all Gal’s and Girl’s alike…
HAIR. Namely, hair colouring…because I am slightly obsessed, haha.
I don’t know about you guys, but I have been dying my hair since I was around 15, and have been every colour under the sun. Lately I have been giving my hair a bit of a break, as it has taken a beating over the years with all the dying and ironing. But last week I saw a brilliant offer for colouring, so with my student loan in my pocket I made an appointment.

The picture to the right was taken the morning before I had my hair dyed, and the picture to the left is of me in the chair ;D
I wasn’t entirely certain what colour I wanted my hair as I was pretty happy with the colour already. So after some leafing through the latest issue of JELLY, I decided on a light copper brown. This was relatively similar to what I already had before, but a little lighter, with more golden tones.
It took 3 people during consultation and 2hrs 45mins to actually colour and cut my hair. The reason it took so long was because they had to use a separate number on the roots and ends. The final result was lovely, although I wish it had been slightly lighter. Unfortunately I am not happy with the way the flash on my camera is bringing out the colour…it just doesn’t look the same. Therefore I will post pictures later.
Now, onto the Gal aspect of hair colouring.
When Gal first started to gain a Western following, it was widely believed that you HAD TO BE BLONDE, which was partially true but as the style grew so did the options. And of course now we all know that just isn’t the case at all. In fact nowadays you can rock almost any colour you feel like…of course there are boundaries. I don’t think neon really suits anyone ;D lol
During my festive visit to 109 last month I noticed a wide variety of hair colours. From black to brown, red and platinum blonde. My personal favourite at the moment is of course coppery-brown, as rocked by this Gal (on the far right).
I would highly recommend having your hair dyed at a salon, because you just can’t get the same effect doing it yourself. Plus, these people know what they’re doing and will help you consider what colours are best for you (think of skin tone etc.).
If you really feel the need to do it yourself and want a genuine ‘Gal’ colour, then I would suggest something along the lines of Palty – endorsed by all your favourite Gal model’s.
A perfect example of the variety available to Gal’s at the moment can be seen in the following shot, featuring the model’s from JELLY;
Just look at all the gorgeous, vibrant shades. I’m so glad I didn’t see this beforehand because it would have left me with too much choice.
p.s. Please let me know how I did, criticism is highly encouraged XD
