My Basic Make-up Must-haves!

I often write reviews on new make-up products I have bought, so I thought I would write about my favourite make-up products – the ones that I rush to buy as soon as I begin to run out. These are just basic items that I use to create a simple, natural look, or use as a base for less ‘natural’ looks. Note: I didn’t include eyeshadows or items that I am constantly experimenting with, or buying in new colours and brands etc.

What are my must-have make-up items?

+ Chanel Lipsticks – Rouge Coco #31 is my favourite.
+ Lipcote – to get the most wear out of my lipsticks.
+ Maxfactor Masterpiece Max Mascara – gives good volume.
+ Sephora Liquid Eyelinerlove the application of this.
+ Sephora White Eye Pencilgreat for highlighting my eyes.
+ Dollywink Eyeliner Pen – great for filling in, or using on lower lash line.
+ Canmake Blush #PW20 – amazingly pigmented, gives great colour.
+ Lush’s Jackie Oats Colour Supplement – perfect for my skin tone.
+ Collection 2000 Pressed Powder – the only powder I’ve found that matches my skin tone perfectly.

I’ve been using the Chanel, Lipcote, Dollywink, Canmake and Maxfactor items for a long time.
The others are all relatively new (within a year), but have quickly become firm favourites of mine.
These are items that I would gladly buy again and again…and I do!
They may not work for everyone, but they work perfectly for me.
Do you have any favourite make-up products?

Wishlist: Beauty Edition

Beauty Wishlist

I don’t often do beauty item wishlists, probably because I just tend to buy the item I want.
Lately though there have been quite a few items I want to grab so I thought I would make one.
I guess this is also kind of a reminder for me, as I always forget what I’ve gone out to buy/look for.
What’s on my wishlist?
I didn’t think my list would come to much £, but after writing it all up well…
The sleep balm, lip plumping gloss (had before & loved it), stylefile, Essie polish and the perfume (running out) are all musts. The other items I guess are just ‘wants’, not that there’s anything wrong with that! I’m still a bit dubious about the Maybellie ‘Popsticks’ though. I’m not a fan of the idea and the texture of the lipstick, but when I swatched the pigment was lovely. However I’ve seen some not so nice reviews on these so we’ll see.
I’m gonna hunt some of these down whilst I’m in London!

Review: Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick

Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick, Shade #31

Remember when I admitted to being a red lipstick virgin? Well those days are long gone, and I now have a variety of red lipsticks in my collection. So I wanted to do a small review on my favourite of them all, my Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick, in shade #31; Cambon.

Swatch (click to enlarge)

Pros:
+ Great coverage
+ Easy application
+ Amazing pigmented colour
+ Hydrating formula, so it doesn’t dry lips out
+ The colour lasts for hours, unless you’re drinking/eating
+ Chanel counter staff matched the shade perfectly to my skin tone

Cons:
– Stains ever so slightly
– There’s never enough!!

Notes:
As you can tell from the photos I’ve already got plenty of use out of it…I just wish I had taken pictures when I first bought it. The pros largely out-weigh the cons. The staining on the lips is nothing more than a regular lipsticks, and I don’t mind being left with tinted lips afterwards as it gives a nice healthy look. I usually like to apply a little Chanel ‘Soin Tendre Levres’ (which is a lip care treatment) before I put on my lipsticks, but with this one it’s not really necessary as it’s moisturising in itself. Also, I have found that if I apply Carmex beforehand, it creates a lovely lipgloss-like effect, which you can see in my previous post here. As I also mentioned, the counter staff at Chanel are incredibly helpful and will kindly help you match any of their lipsticks to your skin tone/desired look. I think beauty fanatics know by now that there is a reason why the brand is so popular. I’ve been a fan of Chanel’s lipsticks for years and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good quality, long lasting lipstick which is true to colour.

OOTD: Well kinda…

Lipstick: Chanel | Earrings: Topshop | Ring: Primark
I do apologise, but there won’t be an outfit of the day, today. I fell over in the road, on my way to lecture and I’ve hurt my leg and hip. My knee has also swollen up, so you can probably tell that I’m not really feeling at my best right now.
I did however take this photo of my make-up and jewellery this morning. I really love these earrings by Topshop and my favourite Rouge Coco lipstick, by Chanel. All topped off with an overly decadent ring from Primark.
